Development plans

The Kyle of Sutherland area covers 680 square miles (or 1,760 km2), with a population of 1,700. The area has been identified as fragile and disadvantaged due to lack of well-paid employment opportunities, an ageing population, limited transport networks, and poor housing stock. Over 60% of households in the area have been identified as being fuel poor and/or living in poverty. (Source: KoSDT, 2024)

Community inputs into local ‘development thinking’ and ‘planning’ can be found in the Ardgay & District Community Plan, which builds on feedback received from ~15% of the population in the area, circa 2011.

For current regional statistics, also see the Sutherland Area Profile.
